"Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of good luck"
Since I was a teenager I have also been trying to stick to another, although very similar maxim:
"Your dreams are always coming true, but not always the way you would like it to be"

You won't believe
You won't believe! As you know I was sick for past 2 weeks and now I'm getting better. My son was going through chicken pox at the same time and by Saturday all his bumps were dry. He seemed quite all right, so I was planning to send him to Kinder Garden today, but.... yesterday I noticed he is having fever: 39,5 C.
Today he is complaining that he has sore throat and the fever is still present, so we are going to see the doctor.
I can't believe, I will sit with him at home for the next week again :( :( :(

Chicken Pox is not dangerous disease, mostly among the children, caused by a virus, developing a rash made of itchy blisters. It may be accompanied with runny nose, cough and high fever, which should be brought down by antipyretic medicines, but if kids are the patients, they should not be given aspirin. Sometimes a stomach ache might also be present. These are the first symptoms of the illness. In the next few days, the first spots appears, mostly in face and chest area, then they spread over entire body, changing they look to blisters filled up with fluid. In another day or two they burst and begin to crust over. The blisters usually appears within 3-7 days and it takes 10-14 days for them to be scabbed over and then the sick person is no longer contagious. Chicken Pox is most contagious during the first days, usually 1-2 days before the rash shows up. The rash might be very itchy, but it is not supposed to be scratched, because it may cause the scars on the skin or even the skin infection . A a cool, wet wash-cloth would work over the itchy areas. Applying calamine lotion and bathing in water with oatmeal is also recommended to sooth itching. The illness is over when all the blisters have scabs. Having been through Chicken Pox once, guaranties the immunity for the rest of life. There is a chickenpox vaccine available. Children who get vaccinated , might still get sick, but the symptoms will be milder.

Going out for drink :)
Hello Guys,
Being successful in psychology field (having passed the exam) I suggest we all go for a drink to celebrate. I think next Saturday after the classes would do. People who didn't sit the exam are certainly welcome, as well :)
What do you think? Who is in...?
Pls. give some suggestions of the places we could go. I'm sure we will find the most suitable for all of us.
I have in mind Tajemniczy Ogrod on Kazimierz, look http://www.tajemniczyogrod.pl/plac/kontakt
or some cafe, pub at main square. Maybe it is easier to get there by tram.
Waiting for your suggestions....

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
I've already mentioned title of the book: " Don't Sweat the Small Stuff ", in commenting mario_md's blog, I guess.
Now, I decided to share it with all of you :)
I would like to recommend this book, as it contains short but wise pieces of advice on how to manage every day's life, which often is very stressful and overwhelming.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff... offers 100 meditations designed to make you appreciate being alive, keep your emotions (especially anger and dissatisfaction) in proper perspective, and cherish other people as the unique miracles they are. It's an owner's manual of the heart, and if you follow the directions, you will be a happier, more harmonious person.
I've read it few times and keep coming back to it, a specially on those sad, difficult, hopeless days which comes from time to time...and it helps :) Enjoy !!!
There is more about the book in the link below:

P.S. If someone wants to borrow the book, is more than welcome to ask me for it...

After Carnival in Poland comes Lent- preparation for Easter which lasts approx.40 days.
It started with preaching “ash sermon”, during which people would just make fullish speeches. After bells rung at midnight, they went back homes to prepare special breakfast- “Podkurek” consisted of herrings, eggs and milk, a symbolic farewell to meat prohibited during Lent.
The milk remains was splashed on the ceiling to read the future .
Musical instruments, mirrors, and even children toys had to be hidden and clothes changed for dark ones.
Next morning on “Ash Wednesday” everybody had to participate in Holy Mass where their heads were sprinkled with ashes. Sad atmosphere was not welcome, so sometimes people made fun by throwing pots of ash at someone. The custom of throwing such pots against the door at midnight was a symbol of tightening up the fast-very strict those day.
The middle of Lent was also the time of drowning or burning a straw dummy, called “Marzanna”-symbol of the death and winter, which is still practised nowadays on March 21, the first day of spring.
In the middle of Lent was Palm Sunday-the memorial of Jesus Christ entering Jerusalem before His Passion. On this day all people went to church with palms in their hands, made of straw and dry flowers, which were blessed during the mass and brought homes for prosperity.
Boys also made a dummy Judas which had to be damaged completely and his leftovers were burned or thrown into water.
Lent seems to be a sad, gloomy and gray time, but even at that time of year, Polish tradition included many colourful and charming customs.

Huntsman Spider
While preparing for PNJA class with Mrs. Krajewska and reading the article about Coober Pedy I thought it would be a great idea to move to that part of the world, where you don't have to spent fortune investing in real estate to live. You just blow the hole in the rock and there you are - in your own apartment, but... I made a small research in the Internet, wanting to find some more info, pictures and opinion about that town. It was very interesting to watch the landscape, read about people's life style and see the houses underground. Unfortunately I came across the article where the lady mentioned the spider that she saw while visiting one of the chapels. I really hate spiders ! The spider that she wrote about is called huntsman spider and is found throughout south-eastern Australia. It lives anywhere, favouring plants which will offer shelter such as ivy and they will come inside your house any time, brrrr !!!
These large spiders move very quickly, they are hairy with long legs. They also like to jump. They can measure up to 15 cm wide from leg to leg. Even though it is said they are harmless, they can still bite you, and if they do, it will be painful and swelling may occur. However a cold pack may relieve the symptoms.
Reading about this creatures and seeing them on the pictures & films made me change my mind about moving to Australia drastically.
